Job Description

Sheet Metal Technician (Entry-Level) / HVAC Assistant

Looking for more than just a job? This is your chance to enter the skilled trades with a well‑respected Central Iowa company known for developing its people from the ground up.

Many of our leaders — including foremen and even company executives — started right where you could start: on the shop floor, learning the trade hands-on. If you’re motivated, dependable, and eager to learn, we’ll give you the tools, training, and opportunities to build a lifelong career.

What You’ll Do

As an entry-level Sheet Metal Technician / HVAC Assistant, you’ll gain hands-on experience across plumbing, HVAC, and sheet metal work , both in the shop and occasionally on job sites. This role is designed to expose you to multiple building systems and help you discover a long-term trade path.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with sheet metal, HVAC, and plumbing projects in the shop and in the field
  • Learning how ventilation systems, ductwork, pipes, and fittings are measured, cut, and installed
  • Using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Reading and learning basic blueprints and layout drawings
  • Supporting experienced technicians with material handling and setup
  • Following safety procedures and learning best practices on job sites

Every day brings something different — and every task builds valuable skills.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, measurements)
  • Willingness to learn trade‑related math and technical skills
  • Comfort using hand and power tools (or eagerness to learn)

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • 2+ years of construction experience
  • HVAC or mechanical experience
  • Sheet metal, riveting, or blueprint reading experience

No prior sheet metal or HVAC experience is required — we train the right people.

Why You’ll Want to Work Here

We’re committed to long-term careers, not short-term labor. This industry has cycles — but we focus on consistent work, steady development, and taking care of our people .

Benefits & Career Perks:

  • ✅ Opportunities for advancement and formal skill development
  • ✅ Tuition reimbursement for trade school or apprenticeship programs
  • ✅ Excellent work/life balance — no two days are the same
  • ✅ 401(k) with company match
  • ✅ Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • ✅ Flexible Spending Accounts (including dependent care)
  • ✅ Life insurance and short‑/long‑term disability coverage
  • ✅ Strong company reputation throughout Central Iowa

This is a company where hard work is noticed — and rewarded.

A Proven Path for Growth

This job is a launchpad. Many of our foremen, supervisors, and leaders moved up internally , starting in entry-level roles just like this one. Whether your goal is HVAC, sheet metal, plumbing, or leadership, we’ll help you get there.

Work Environment

  • Shop work and active construction sites
  • May work alongside other trades or independently
  • Physically demanding work requiring strength, stamina, and dexterity
  • Occasional work in tight or awkward spaces
  • Standing, lifting, carrying tools, and moving throughout the day

Safety is a priority, and training is provided to help you succeed.

Build Something That Lasts

The construction industry is the backbone of everything around us — and there’s no better time to get in. If you want hands-on work, steady growth, and a future you can be proud of, this is the place to start.
