Job Description

Title: Subcontractor Dog Trainer — Board & Train Only

About Us Professional dog training company specializing exclusively in board & train programs focused on lasting behavior change and stronger dog–owner relationships.

Position Overview Seeking a reliable subcontractor dog trainer to manage board & train placements (no private lessons). Responsible for daily care, training, client communication, and progress documentation for dogs in your care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run full board & train programs following company protocols and individualized plans.
  • Provide daily pickup and drop-off of client dogs within the agreed service area (must have reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, current registration).
  • Send daily videos to clients documenting progress and key exercises.
  • Maintain detailed training notes and weekly progress summaries.
  • Coordinate veterinary care when needed and ensure dogs return in good physical and behavioral condition.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and company coordinator.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience training dogs in residential/board & train settings.
  • Proven success with common behavior issues (obedience, reactivity, leash manners, resource guarding, separation issues).
  • Reliable vehicle for pickups/drop-offs.
  • Ability to safely handle and lift dogs of various sizes.
  • Smartphone proficiency for recording/sending daily videos; reliable internet for uploads.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to pass a background check and provide references.
  • Proof of liability insurance or willingness to obtain subcontractor insurance if required.

Preferred

  • Certification (CPDT-KA, IAABC, KPA, CCPDT, etc.) and/or canine first aid/CPR.

Schedule & Commitment

  • Flexible scheduling; typical program lengths vary (e.g., 2–8 weeks). Availability to run multiple concurrent or staggered placements preferred.
  • Must provide daily video updates and weekly written progress reports.

Compensation

  • Pay: $400–$500 per week, per dog in trainer's care.
  • Paid per week, per dog.
  • No mileage or supply reimbursement.
