Job Description

We are seeking a Locum Tenens Mental Health Psychiatrist to support an adult outpatient program within the County of Los Angeles Department. This role is part of a Community Reentry Program , which serves individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, many of whom have forensic histories or face barriers to accessing traditional care.

This is a field-based psychiatry role , also known as community or street psychiatry , where care is delivered directly in the community rather than in a traditional clinic setting. The program focuses on engaging individuals who may be experiencing homelessness or are otherwise unable to access standard outpatient services.

Psychiatrists will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment while working closely with a multidisciplinary team to support stabilization and recovery.

Standard appointment durations include:

• 90 minutes for initial medication evaluations
• 60 minutes for transfer evaluations
• 30 minutes for routine follow-ups

All clinical documentation is completed in the Avatar electronic health record system, with occasional supplemental paper documentation. Team collaboration is supported through regular meetings and daily communication via Microsoft Teams and Outlook.

• Telepsychiatry: Not available

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment planning for adult patients, including those with forensic histories
• Provide medication management, including prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting psychotropic medications
• Deliver field-based care , including visiting clients in community settings alongside a rounding partner or care team
• Engage patients who may be experiencing homelessness or difficulty accessing traditional care
• Monitor patient progress and document treatment outcomes in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care
• Provide clinical consultation on diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management
• Participate in case conferences, morning reports, and team meetings

• Experience with field-based care, forensic populations, or underserved communities
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Excellent time management and organizational abilities

• Proficiency in computer systems, including email, Microsoft Office, and EMR/EHR platforms
