Pediatric Hospitalist – Weekend Call Coverage

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role provides weekend call coverage for pediatric patients, including newborn nursery, ER consults, and inpatient med-ped care. The physician will manage low patient volumes, provide daily rounding, and handle most calls remotely with occasional on-site visits as needed.

SCHEDULE:

• Strict schedule: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM (no exceptions).
• Call is not in-house (can be taken from home or hotel).
• Required response time: within 30 minutes.
• Coverage needed for 1 weekend per month.

Required dates:

• June 5 (Noon) – June 8 (7:00 AM) 
• June 19 (Noon) – June 22 (7:00 AM) 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide call coverage for newborn nursery, ER, and inpatient pediatric unit.
• Manage low inpatient census (typically 1–2 pediatric patients).
• Oversee newborn nursery (average ~5 babies over the weekend).
• Respond to ER consults (2–3 calls per day, often manageable by phone).
• Perform daily rounding (Saturday & Sunday) in inpatient unit and nursery.
• Provide stabilization for infants requiring transfer.
• Perform procedures including intubation and line placement.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

• Board Eligible or Board Certified (Board Certified preferred).
• Active state license required (no time for licensing).
• Must be available for required June coverage dates.
• Ability to meet strict scheduling requirements with no accommodations.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

• Credentialing can be expedited (approximately 3–4 weeks) with case logs and active license.
• No additional call-back or extra compensation beyond standard coverage expectations.
