Job Description

pOSITION SUMMARY:
The Laboratory and X-Ray Manager oversees the operations of both the laboratory and x-ray departments at Rocky Boy Health Center. This role includes direct supervision of all laboratory and x-ray personnel, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, dependable diagnostic services.

Major duties:

  • Meets the qualifications for General Supervisor under CLIA Part 493 Subpart M.
  • Operates under the direction of the Laboratory Director in full compliance with CLIA regulations. Supervises day-to-day operations of the lab as well as staff.
  • Ensures accuracy, appropriateness, and adherence to all laboratory and x-ray policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Oversees the orientation and training of new laboratory and x-ray staff, and facilitates ongoing education and competency development.
  • Ensures all laboratory and x-ray equipment receives required routine and contractual maintenance.
  • Maintains current and comprehensive policy and procedure manuals for both departments.
  • Provides leadership and coordination to integrate lab and x-ray services with other healthcare departments, ensuring quality, appropriateness, and continuity of care.
  • Collaborates with medical staff, supervisory staff, Quality Director, and administrative teams in planning and implementing quality monitoring and improvement activities.
  • Plans, assigns, and prioritizes work based on staff competencies, departmental standards, and organizational needs.
  • Evaluates new equipment acquisitions and procedural changes for compliance with CLIA regulations, cost-effectiveness, staff readiness, and overall impact on quality of care.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, including completion of a one-year medical technology internship.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Current Montana State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required.
