Akamai's Custom Government Web Development team is responsible for building custom web applications for our Public Sector customers, providing identity management tools, single sign-on solutions, and content delivery configuration for customers of the Akamai platform. We are looking for an to intern work with stakeholders across our GCDS and Cloud Technology groups to help provide new features, fixes and enhancements for existing and future web applications.

As a participant in our programs, you will gain valuable experience and make contributions through meaningful project work. You will have the opportunity to join us for trainings, networking events, and engagements with company leadership. Our 2026 12-week intern program starts on May 26th and goes through August 14th.

Partner with the best

During your time with us, you will work with senior engineers and solve real customer problems. You'll be tasked with writing code in support of these larger projects or writing tools to improve how we work. You will have ample opportunities to learn new subjects and engage with various technologies, toolsets and software languages. The ideal candidate will be collegial, curious, agile, and demonstrate the ability to apply new skills in an ambiguous environment.

As a Web Software Development Intern, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing backend and frontend solutions while automating workflows to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Building web application features throughout the full software development lifecycle for use both internally within Akamai and by external customers.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define standards and document processes.
  • Learning about our distributed systems, products, and technical stack as needed for your role.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be currently studying in a Bachelor sor Masters program in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Have experience with web development technologies like Ruby on Rails and Javascript/React.
  • Love getting your hands dirty in code (no vibe coding here), and be eager to learn!
  • Be responsible, self-motivated, diligent, and able to think analytically and delivering solutions to complex problems.

This program requires you to be available 40 hours per week during summer months (May-August).
