1. Teaching & Curriculum Delivery
Implement effective EAL-focused classroom management to support student learning, addressing language anxiety and providing differentiated support.
Deliver the curriculum in English using well-prepared teaching resources (saved on the school server, ManageBac, or Moodle), integrating language objectives alongside content objectives.
Develop written curriculum documents as required by the programme, including EAL scope and sequence and bridging units between CNC English and IB DP English.
Achieve curriculum learning outcomes using IB DP English criteria.
Use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment results to inform lesson planning, clearly distinguishing between language-related errors and content-understanding gaps.
2. Planning, Assessment & Collaboration
Conduct vertical and horizontal curriculum planning, including EAL articulation between MYP/Pre-DP and DP, and between CNC and IB DP. Attend weekly collaborative planning meetings.
Collaboratively write plans (including language-focused learning objectives and differentiated tasks) and upload them to ManageBac.
Apply relevant pedagogical approaches to create active and engaged learning, using scaffolding, comprehensible input, and cooperative learning strategies for EAL learners.
Design relevant and authentic formative and summative assessment tasks that assess language proficiency without unfairly penalising content knowledge due to language limitations.
Ensure measurable student progress using EAL-specific benchmarks (e.g., WIDA, CEFR) alongside IB DP criteria.
Analyse assessment results to inform teaching, distinguishing whether performance issues stem from language limitations or content misunderstanding.
3. School Community & Professional Contribution
Contribute to the wider school community by helping create showcases of student learning and actively participating in exhibitions, field trips, competitions, judging, house events, etc., with particular attention to highlighting EAL learner progress (e.g., multilingual projects, language growth portfolios).
Complete reporting and commenting according to school policies, with comments clearly distinguishing between effort, language development, and content achievement.
General Duties
Attend school workshops, meetings, and IB/external workshops/conferences, and engage in ongoing professional learning in EAL pedagogy and bilingual education.
