Commercial Programming Systems, Inc. (CPS) is an Information Technology consulting and staffing company offering a broad range of services aimed at helping our clients deliver high-quality, cost-effective systems.

We are currently searching for an AS/400 (IBM i) Developer to support our client located in the Lynchburg, Virginia area for a temp-to-hire position. This is an on-site position , and the selected person will need to work on-site.

Target hourly pay rate: 45 an hour

The AS/400 (IBM i) Developer will support and enhance the core manufacturing and ERP systems. This role is critical in maintaining production, inventory, supply chain, and financial applications that run on the IBM i platform while contributing to modernization and integration initiatives across the organization. The ideal candidate understands manufacturing operations and has strong RPG and DB2 skills, with experience supporting high-volume transactional environments.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and enhance applications on IBM i (AS/400)
• Support manufacturing modules, including: production planning & scheduling, inventory management, and purchasing & supply chain.
• Write and maintain programs using RPG IV / ILE RPG / Free-Form RPG
• Develop and optimize queries using DB2 for i and embedded SQL
• Maintain CL programs, job scheduling, and batch processes
• Build and maintain EDI integrations with suppliers and customers
• Develop APIs/web services to integrate IBM i with MES, WMS, and external systems
• Troubleshoot production issues with minimal downtime
• Support month-end, year-end, and audit processes
• Participate in system modernization initiatives

Qualifications:

• 3–7+ years of hands-on IBM i (AS/400) development experience
• Strong experience with: RPG IV / ILE RPG (preferred)
• Programming experience in Infor M3 or similar C, Ada, or Java
• Embedded SQL
• DB2 for i
• Experience supporting ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
